What a weekend off the grid taught me.

A week ago my partner and I spent the weekend in a tiny home north of Toronto.

I decided after many winter months of having our heads down with work and being tied to the city that it was time to reconnect with nature and get off our digital devices for a bit to chill the heck out

So we drove a few hours north and found ourselves in this cute little space…….

It had electricity and water, gorgeous big windows, and a cozy little fireplace but that was about it.

And it was heaven.

It’s been interesting to reflect on our time there. Parts of our trip stood out to me as unexpected.....

It took us almost 24hrs to decompress from the intensity of the city and all the tech we had left behind at home. At first, we felt anxious. Overwhelmed. What are we going to do in such a small space for multiple days? Ahhhhh. We literally had to go through a detox experience as our nervous systems slowly were able to calibrate to the new frequency. The frequency of nature. Mmmmm.

My “productive” mind had all kinds of plans of the things we were going to do there. Reading books and writing poems, talking about our future, making big plans for the next few months, yadda yadda. And you know what? We mostly slept. Once we landed into the vibe of the trees and the wind and the clouds drifting by and felt the arms of momma nature holding us, we slept and slept and slept like wee babies.

Both of these things really reminded me of the work I do with people.

It’s clear to me now that we both needed to be held, by nature, by this tiny space, to rest, to recalibrate, to settle into and discover who we are when we are not on the go, hustling and bustling through life.

And we all need that.

We need someone to hold us. So we can move through our discomfort around slowing down, tuning in, feeling things, disconnecting from the world, and being supported in navigating that process. Giving ourselves a chance to actually move through things we’ve been holding onto for a long time is a great gift.

This is how the process of letting go goes. We make the space, we feel held, and we let go.

It’s simple.

Whether we let go into rest, or play, or creativity, or nothing at all we learn through having someone hold us that we can access these places within us that we may have forgotten about.

This is really what I do with my clients. We work together in this harmonious way to create a container for them to be held in as they work through some of the current layers that are coming up for them in their life right now. We build a strong and powerful container so they can feel safe to surrender into their body and its innate wisdom and guidance which then leads us. We then allow the process to happen. I guide and nudge and offer up my wisdom around how this process of healing works but mostly we let it happen.

I have worked with so many incredible humans already this year and it’s been such a blessing to see each one of them blossom and sprout into a new version of themselves that is now ready to lead, share, and be loved deeper. Gosh. It’s beautiful.
